The Russell Island Group comprises 99 islands and is the home of the Lavukal people, whose native tongue is Lavukalese.  This is one of the richest and most complex languages of the Solomon Islands.  Loun island represents the largest concentration of Lavukals, the natives of these islands, while Hae island is the first Russellese settlement.

The island group is also home to the old Lever Brother Plantations, which has operated copra and oil industries since the turn of the century (some of our coconut trees are over 100 years old).

All of the Russell islands are laden with coconut palms.  White sandy beaches and aquamarine water fringe the islands and there are endless hidden sanctuaries open to the guests of Yandina Plantation Resort.
