US War Memorial, Honiara Japanese Memorial, Honiara Plenty of War Relics to see... Beautiful Sunsets

Climate

Tropically warm and humid with coastal day temperatures averaging 28oC.  April to November tends to be drier, and November to April wetter.  The water temperature is 26-29oC.  Solomon Islands is at 9'S latitude.  Bring plenty of sun block.

What to Wear

Light and casual.   Keep brief beachwear for the uninhabited beaches.

Health

Malaria is a problem in the Solomon Islands.  Consult your doctor at least two weeks prior to departure about an appropriate brand of anti-malarial medication.  The best way to avoid Malaria is to not get bitten.  This means using repellant all day, especially during dusk hours.  We recommend long sleeves and trousers for those who are particularly tasty to the little pests!

Travel Insurance

You will be traveling well off the beaten track.  Travel insurance is highly recommended.

War Relics

The Solomon Islands was the site of some of the most fierce fighting in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.  As a result the islands are littered with both land and sea based relics.  Solomon Islands law forbids unauthorised export of war relics retrieved from either land sites or sunken wrecks. Consult the National Museum of Solomon Islands for advice.
